Admissions
The designated area for Priory Rise School is Tattenhoe Park and South Kingsmead: however we have two ‘secondary’ defined areas – North Kingsmead and Tattenhoe. Children are admitted in September in the academic year that they are 5.
Children are also admitted to other year groups throughout the year if there are places available.
The Local Authority School Admissions Team co-ordinate all school admissions. They process all applications and will contact you to let you know if a place has been allocated.
For children starting school for the first time in September, you can apply online on the council’s website.

Foundation Stage
During the summer term we hold a meeting for all new parents to discuss the school routine and the entry arrangements for our Foundation children. All children starting school in September will have an opportunity to spend some time in their new class with their teacher and will also receive a home visit in the autumn term from their class teacher prior to starting school.
Foundation Stage teachers also make visits to local pre-schools in the summer term before the children begin at school. Home visits take place during the first week of the autumn term, as our Foundation aged children have a staggered start and do not start full days until the middle of September.

Year 6
Information regarding the transfer to secondary school at the end of Year 6 is available from the Local Authority’s School Admission Team during September of Year 6. Children from the Priory Rise School defined area usually transfer to The Hazeley Academy, although a number of our children transfer to other schools in the area.
Oversubscription Criteria
As required by law children with an Education, Health and Care Plan which names Priory Rise School will be admitted.
In the event that there are more applications than places available, applications will be ranked as follows:
- 1 Children who are looked after (LAC) and all previously looked after children (PLAC) including those children who appear (to the admission authority) to have been in State care outside of England and ceased to be in State care as a result of being adopted (IAPLAC).
- 2 Children eligible for the service premium.
- 3 Children who live within the defined area and who have a sibling at Priory Rise School at the time of admission. Proof of residence may be required.
- 4 Children who live in the area served by the school — the defined (catchment) area. Proof of residence will be required.
- 5 Children of staff where the member of staff has been employed at the school for two or more years at the time at which the application for admission to the school is made and/or children of staff who are recruited to fill a vacant post for which there is a demonstrable skill shortage at the school. It is at the absolute discretion of the Board of Directors to determine when there is a demonstrable skill shortage.
- 6 Children who live outside of the school's defined area but have a sibling in years one - five in attendance at Priory Rise School at the time of admission.
- 7 "Distance" from the school to the place of residence.
Distance Tie Breaker
In the event of there being more applicants meeting any of the criteria above, places will be allocated in distance order using the distance between the child's normal home address and the school's main entrance, measured in a straight line, using the council's computerised measuring system with those living closest to the school receiving the higher priority. In the unlikely event of joint over subscription, having exhausted distance, random allocation will be used as the ultimate tie-breaker. For applicants living in flats, the distance will be measured from the school's main entrance to the front door of the ground floor flat underneath the applicant's main residence. Where two or more pupils live at the same distance, the tie-breaker will be random allocation.
